Quran Issues: Scientific Miracles (Criteria)
Overview

Muslims often cite scientific miracles or accuracies in the Quran as evidence for its truthfulness and divine origin. The claim is that the Quran must have been revealed to Muhammad by Allah because it contains scientific statements that Muhammad could not have known but that modern science confirms. However, these so-called scientific accuracies fail when compared to the following criteria or checklist.

1. Can it be shown that modern science supports the claim being made in the Quran? In other words, does science verify the Quran on this issue?
2. Can it be shown that the scientific claim is the correct or only way of interpreting the Quranic passage? In other words, how should the Quranic passage be correctly interpreted and how have Muslims typically understood this passage throughout Islamic history?
3. Can it be shown that the scientific claim was not taught by anyone either before Muhammad or during his lifetime? In other words, was Muhammad the first to introduce this idea or could he have learnt it from someone else?
4. Can it be shown that the Quran does not contain scientific inaccuracies? In other words, if scientific accuracies prove that the Quran is true (revealed by God) then do scientific inaccuracies prove that the Quran is false (not revealed by God)?
